Step-by-Step Guide to Your MRI Experience at UNIRAD

Whether it’s your first MRI or a follow-up, we understand that feeling comfortable and informed can make a big difference. Here’s a breakdown of what your scan day will look like:

🏥 1. Arrival at the Clinic

You’ll be welcomed by our friendly reception team and asked to complete a brief safety questionnaire. Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to allow time for this.

💡 Tip: Wear comfortable clothing without metal zips, buttons, or jewellery.

🛏️ 3. During the Scan

  • You’ll lie down on the padded MRI bed, which slowly moves into the scanner.

  • You must remain still throughout — even small movements can affect image quality.

  • The scanner makes loud, rhythmic noises (knocking, tapping or buzzing), but you’ll be given earplugs or headphones.

  • Scans typically take 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of areas being imaged.

💬 You can speak to the radiographer at any time via an intercom system.

🧾 4. After the Scan

There’s no recovery time required — you’re free to leave immediately unless contrast was used (in which case we’ll monitor you briefly). Your radiologist will analyse the images and send a report within 48 hours to your referring doctor or GP.

🎧 Comfort Options

We aim to make your experience as stress-free as possible. You can:

  • Bring your own music or podcast to listen to during the scan.

  • Request a friend or family member to accompany you (they must stay outside the scan room).

  • Inform us beforehand if you experience claustrophobia — we’ll support you with tailored options.
